Who I am
Meet Martín
- Engineer at heart. I’ve always been fascinated by technology — taking things apart, understanding how they work, and rebuilding them better. That curiosity led me into Industrial Engineering and a career across firmware, software, and modern product development.
- International background. I grew up in northern Spain, studied in France and Scotland, and spent eight years working in England — now sharing life with my Italian partner. Along the way I became fluent in Spanish, English, French, and Italian, and hold both Spanish and British citizenship.
- Travel lover. I enjoy discovering new places and cultures around the world, and travel has been a big part of my life for years. In late 2024, after leaving London, I spent three months exploring Asia — one of the most memorable experiences so far.
- Cycling enthusiast. Cycling is my favourite way to disconnect, stay active, and explore new places — it’s been a constant in my life for years.
- Cooking & coffee lover. Experimenting in the kitchen and dialing in espresso at home is my way to slow down and enjoy the small details.
What I do
Engineering for real-world products
I build embedded software for real products — combining hands-on engineering with a product mindset. From fast prototypes to production firmware, I enjoy creating systems that work smoothly with hardware and stand the test of real-world use.
Embedded Systems & Firmware
Experience across the full lifecycle: prototyping, hardware bring-up, architecture, and production-ready code for automotive and e-mobility products.
Product Development & Collaboration
Worked closely with external suppliers and internal teams, defining requirements, refining specifications, and leading the software interface across engineering disciplines.
Vehicle Communications
Experience with CAN (UDS, ISO-TP) and BLE for both diagnostic and user-facing features. Built communication flows and tooling for testing, validation, and monitoring.
Tooling & Automation
Daily use of Git, Jira, Jenkins, CI/CD, Python scripting, and unit testing to streamline workflows, automate tests, and support overall developer productivity.
Experience
Work that shaped my approach
London, UK
Senior Firmware Engineer
2024 — 2025
- • Promoted from Embedded Software Engineer to Senior Firmware Engineer, recognizing technical leadership and impact.
- • Owned the integration between the battery system and the rest of the e-bike platform, acting as the main technical liaison with the battery supplier.
- • Led battery integration from a system perspective, including CAN communications, power-up sequencing, and overall power management behavior.
- • Led firmware integration of the handlebar remote controller, coordinating communications, system states, and user interaction behavior.
- • Contributed to development on multiple microcontrollers, balancing real-time constraints, safety, and long-term maintainability.
- • Acted as a technical bridge between firmware, hardware, systems, and mechanical teams in a small multidisciplinary group.
- • Implemented low-level firmware for non-volatile storage, including application logic, SPI drivers, and calibration strategies.
- • Designed calibration mechanisms that enabled reuse of the same firmware across different bike models, sensors, and motors without full reflashing.
Embedded Software Engineer
2020 — 2024
- • Designed communication stacks (CAN, ISO-TP, UDS, BLE) and manufacturing diagnostics across battery, controller, and mobile app.
- • Developed firmware for motor control, power management, and rider-facing features since early e-Motiq Brompton Electric prototypes.
- • Contributed to CI/CD pipelines and code quality processes to ensure reliable releases and long-term firmware stability.
- • Supported rapid on-target prototyping to accelerate new product development and reduce iteration cycles.
- • Reworked and improved CAN-based communications, diagnostics, and telemetry using automotive-grade protocols (UDS, ISO-TP).
- • Applied automotive software best practices (MISRA, unit testing, static analysis) in a consumer hardware environment.
- • Worked across the full product lifecycle, from early prototyping to production firmware shipped in consumer products.
Cambridge, UK
Software Engineer - Electronics
2017 — 2020
- • Developed real-time, safety-critical embedded software for automotive prototype and production vehicle programs.
- • Worked across the software stack, from low-level firmware to high-level vehicle and engine management strategies.
- • Implemented and validated on-board diagnostics and vehicle communications using industry standards (OBD-II, UDS, CAN, J1939).
- • Gained hands-on experience with automotive regulations and compliance-driven development processes.
- • Contributed to embedded software architecture design under strict real-time and safety constraints.
- • Participated in verification and validation activities on embedded targets and computer-based tools.
- • Built a strong foundation in embedded C programming and low-level debugging for real-time systems.
- • Collaborated within large, multidisciplinary automotive teams across systems, testing, and calibration.
- • Used professional toolchains and workflows including Git/SVN, Jira, CI pipelines, and Linux environments.
- • Developed strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills in a high-pressure engineering context.
